Loeb wins historic WRC race

Here’s a little-known fact, depending of course, on your knowledge of The Internet: Sebastien Loeb started out in life as a gymnast. That’s right, before the 38-year old Frenchman found going sideways at high speed an acceptable career path, he was already a local gymnastics champion.

Kind of explains the picture above, then. Here he is, full-flight, at last weekend’s Rally of Finland, where he chalked up yet another win with team mate Daniel Elena. And it’s a historic event too, as it marks the 500th FIA World Rally Championship event.

Says Seb: “We pushed a lot, sometimes driving close to the limit. To drive like that, you need to have a car you can have total faith in.” Yeah that, and gentlemen vegetables dipped in adamantium. Just look at the air he gets above.

The win pushes Citroen’s WRC team further ahead in the manufacturer’s standings, and of course, means Sebastien is that bit closer to securing another WRC crown to his record eight consecutive wins in the WRC. Eight. In a row.

To make you feel even more pathetic about your driving prowess, consider this – he even competed at Le Mans in 2006 in an LMP1 Pescarolo. And came second.
